Dear Blog,
This will be my last entry for my Effective Internet Research (EIR) b log Through EIR, I have learn various software/ search engines to enhance my learning of searching information through the internet. It taught me how to create wiki page, blog, face-book page and twitter to introduce my research on "Serious Emotional Disturbance and Youth" to the public to create awareness of such illness.
It also taught me how to use various software such as using invisible web (database), Google Search Engines, Meta Search Engines, Subject directories to find my research more effectively and efficiency as well as allow me to produce excellent work-piece for my report.
After researching information through these search engines, it allows me to compare the differences so that i am aware of which is the most effective search engines to us.
Through this module, it also bring us to a field trip at IExperience which is located at the Esplanade Exchange. From this field trip, it allow us to experiences the high-technology equipment to enhance our living condition. It broaden our knowledge and introduce new technology to us. It also create bonding section with our classmate and we have alot of fun doing hand-on activities and enhance our learning.
It also allow us to create our group face-book to create awareness to the public of our selected topic "Serious Emotional Disturbance and Youth", It is so meaningful to share information regarding of this topics and through the research I have learn lots of symptoms, conditions of such illness.
We also get to post our wiki page of this selected topic and present to our classmate on the information we found from the relevant internet through the use of different search engines.
EIR also taught us how to identify the website is suitable for our research by knowing the purpose of the website, the coverage, authority, accessibility, accuracy, presentation and arrangement and usability. By looking through the website using this format, it allow use to get a perfect result for our findings. This enhance our content of the research.
This module actually allow me to learn various internet software and search engines which I believe it will be much useful for me to apply this skills to my future job.
Overall, I am glad i have chosen Effective Internet Research as one of my CDS (elective module) as it really enhance my knowledge of using a better search engines to research for better information.

Field Trip To IExperience

A day of fun adventure field trip to IExperience
Dear Blog, On 15 July 2012 (Sunday), our class went to a field trip at IExperience which is located at Esplanade Exchange. This e-learning activity is done in collaboration with industry partner - Inforcomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).
The location of IExperience is at 90 Bras Basah Road, #B1-10/18 Esplanade Xchange, Singapore 189562 (connected to Esplanade MRT station).
When we reach IExperience, the tour guide or staff on duty welcome us and guide us along the whole process explaining the usage of the facilities. This tour allow us to experience different equipment that cater and enhance our living environment with the usage of high-technology. After that we get to explore all the exhibits and information stations at IExperience.
When i first enter IExperience, it really amazed me as i feel had enter a new world that is all high technology. The tour guide even show us a video of the brief introduction of the facilities happening at IExperience.
During the tour, we get to Exhibit themes/ facilities available at IExperience . They are Next Gen classroom, Connect @ Home, Next Gen Office, Telepresence, Interactive IPTV, Next Gen NBN, Home Networking and NFC.
Let me explain with you the facilities/ features of each exhibit/ station.
Next Gen Classroom
It allows learning to goes beyond boundaries. Teaching and learning take on new dimensions where everyone can tap from a wide range of resources, share knowledge and collaborate anytime and anywhere. Teacher's Monitor allow teacher to capture the screen of the students and monitor whether the students are doing their work. Teacher's Monitor also enable teacher to mark attendance through the monitor and print out the attendance list at the end of semester. Teacher can ask students to do some simple quiz and collaborate the answer given by the students to understand how student did his/her work. As a result there is an interaction between teacher and students.
Students can share the desktop to do their work such as drawing, surfing internet, writing documents and doing project using the same desktop. So that everyone can focus on the same screen. The advantage of this desktop is that user can move around the document, enlarge or minimize the screen, rotating the document such as the picture shown below:
User can also keep the file at the middle of each side so that user can take out the document anytime they want and keep it if they do not want to use for the time being.

Connect @ Home
When touring around the IExperience, I realize that there is a special monitor display unusual which interest me alot. Connect @ Home allows user to enjoy high-speed connectivity and computing resources in the comfort of our home.
It is a Home-based work which is a form of flexible work arrangement. It helps to raise labour force participation, enhance work-life harmony for employees and improve productivity.
With high speed connectivity and communication equipment working at home is easy and convenient.
This computer allow user to do Flexi-work at home or communicating with each other using the software, For example if the patient who like to see doctor to book appointment, to seek for advice, getting medication result. He/She can communicate with the doctor by using screen detect to see each other.
Next, we get to explore an interesting software connect@home. What is so special about this device.It is richer and more interactive TV experience which takes television to the next level with on-demand entertainment and services as well as live information. It contains Videos, Samsung Apps, Favourite, Channel, Guide, Web Browser, Games and Video camera etc.
This television allow user to communicate with each other. It is similar to 3G phone which allow user to view the person in a bigger screen. For example, Nancy Lau, the patient want to find out some enquiry regarding her medical condition. She can just call Dr Lee, the doctor to clear her doubt. The doctors can also check her condition to see whether the patient is in a healthy condition. This save alot of time for the doctor to go walk around the hospital to check the patient condition.
The patient can also have conference call with her family members and her doctor so that the family members are aware of her conditions.
It also control the surrounding around such as table lamp, blinds, dimmer lights and lighting by using a remote control therefore user will not need to walk to the switches to off the light, to cover the blinds as everything is under sensor control system.
It is an unleashing possibilities in your home which provides new home networking options like wireless, power-line and structured cabling will enable you to access Next Gen Services at every corner of your house. It is where all the connection can be link to one plug so that you can use lots of technology items at one go. It helps to distribute broadband connectivity within the home, the commonly available home networking options are: - Wired/ Wireless router - Structured networking cabling - Coaxial Home Networking - Power-line Networking

i think Shopping with NFC is the most fascinating software that interest me alot. It is a Next Generation E-payment Field Communication where user can purchase the food through the billboard by tapping it with the smartphone to detect the ingredients they want to purchase. After purchasing, it will deliver to your home. This cause extra convenient to the user who are extreme busy for work and have no time to go to the supermarket to choose the ingredient they want.
User will need to access to the internet to connect a software system which is specially design for the use of this usage. User will then place/tag this smartphone to any of the food items that they wish to purchase an order. The information will then detect through the Android -phone.
Touring Once you tag the items, it will immediately sensor the information that you need such as the price, the payment system and the active ingredient made. As you can see the tour guide is holding the Android -phone that has detect the ingredient of "Prego", it will then appear the ingredient prices and information as well as recommend you other ingredient you might need to add on to enhance your meal.
For example, in this case beside showing the information of "Prego" - The sauce of spaghetti. It also appear at Campbell cream of mushroom. As you can see in the picture, it gives us the details information such as the weight of the can, the description and the review. A gentle recommendation will allow user to save time in tagging so many ingredients needed. The system will then generate and combine all ingredients that they think you will need it.
User can first customize their particulars to the software in the android phone so that whenever the user want to purchase any ingredient they can just allocate their address without typing it again. User can also state their allergies for example peanut so that the software can notify the user that the ingredient consume peanut which is not recommended for user to purchase hence it will then recommend another product to replace the peanut.
Once user select the ingredient to purchase, it will state the price of the individual product and user can also state the quantity of the product that they need. The device will also appear the total sum of cost of items that the user has select previous for purchase.
After selecting all the ingredient, user will then have to select the location that they want their product to be deliver to for example to the office address. User will also need to indicate the delivery date and time to delivery its product.
This device also indicate the receipts video for user to view. User can learn how to make new dishes through this software. They will teach the user step by step on how they can cook the dish.
Next Generation E-Payment enhance our living environment which is effective, efficient, convenient, user-friendly, easy to navigate around the source to locate information, search facilities are easy and limit the time of purchasing items. It is unique as it is not yet established to the public. Information given is up-to-date hence user can purchase any products with the same prices stated in the supermarket. The application clearly stated the steps of the proceed in order to purchase the products.
It is easy for user to use and allow user to order product at any date and time. The application are made in an interesting format which capture the attention of the user. It uses bold colors to enhance the application. The presentation and arrangement is consistency and it provides features that facilitate retrieval of information such as content list, menu system and search facility. It is logically arranged & categorized. The application uses frames, graphics and moving images. User will just need to follow a simple process to order the product. Therefore, i think that this product is marketable as it really provides convenient for people who are busy with work and need to cook a simple menu for the family members Recap of the process of using this software:
First Step - -phone. It will then appear the items you have selected in the phone.
Second Step The phone will then appear a review of the items including the number of items, the price of each items, the description, the reviews and recommendation.
Third Step - Decide and choose which items to purchase. This steps require user to state the quantity of purchase individual items and it will tell user whether the items containing items that allergies the user. It will state the total cost of the items.
Step 4 - After choosing the items that is needed, user will then make payment and decide the deliver location, date and time to recieve the items.
Step 5 - After making payment, user are done with the shopping and user will have to wait for the deliver of the items.
As a conclusion, NFC brings greater convenience to consumer as they need to touch to discover, touch to share and touch to pay.
2. Compare this site visit e-learning activity with attending physical EIR class in TP.
Classroom
Indoor lesson allows us to learn more effective as teacher can focus on us and deliver the message more specific and clearly. As it is a classroom base, we can get to interact with teacher. However if the theory is too dry, student might then to loss focus and teacher are unable to deliver the message clearly as we cannot picture the items that is been explain by teacher. E-learning Activity at site visit
However e-learning activity at site visit allow us to get the chance to do hands-on work. We are able to understand better as we can self direct learning by our own by touching the equipment as well as asking enquiry at the same time. We get the chance to explore things around the area that were not taught during the lesson. As we get to see the visual image of the items, hence we can absorb knowledge and easily remember the message deliver.
3. Briefly describe One Ethical Issue covered in EIR Lecture notes 11 & 12
Privacy Issues refers to privacy as an individual. When signing up and registering with Internet services. Most of the time it require us to reveal personal information Example, our Name, E-mail, Address, Mailing Address, Telephone Numbers, Copyright @http://www.hoax- Age, Income, Bank Account.
Whenever the software wants our personal information, consider is it worth the cost of giving information to them, what will be done to the information, check whether the software is reliable, understand the organization or the person who owns your account well. Find out the reason why the software need your particulars. We must always be aware whether we should provide our personal information through internet sources as it is consider danger as people might tends to misused your particulars as this is consider as a privacy issues.
A message is transmitted to a server every time you visit a web page therefore, user should always disclose their personal information over e-mails, chat-rooms, discussion forums and forms as such information is privacy and sensitive that can cause one to hack into your account and misuse it. The website/software should use encryption so that the message given by user will then becomes an unreadable form which only allow certain people who have the code to read. They should not review the particulars to anybody.
4. How this ethical issue can be applied to the exhibits that you can see, hear and experience at IExperience.
Ethical issue refer to pertaining to or dealing with morals or the principles of morality; pertaining to right and wrong in conduct which includes copyrights Issues, Privacy Issues and Security Issues.
Nowadays, people tend to use internet to make payment when purchasing items or website creator do not disclose such information and allowing everyone to see the information. Shopping with NFC requires us to provide particulars and account number for user to make payment, therefore can be risky for user to provide such information. Sometime, user might not willing to use this software to make payment as they are afraid that they particulars can be review to anyone.
6. Suggest how the issues can be handled and what can be done in future.
Website creator should provide an information to let user aware that there particular will be kept secretly and only user and the seller can access to the system to make and collect payment. User Copyright@http://www.asme.org can create a code number and tell the seller the code number so that only both users can enter the software and collection payment. Privacy issues can be very important as the website creator cannot share some sensitive information to public without user permission as it can be a serious case if user details are being misused by someone else. To protect user details is crucial as user will feel more safe, secure and are more willing to use the software to make payment.
Touring around IExperience really enhance my understanding of living in a High-Technology Environment. If such technology is launch in the market, I believe most people are willing to purchase it and it will help our living environment better.

After attending my lesson "Effective internet research", I realized that there is such a database called invisible web. What is invisible web? Do you have any idea of it????
Invisible web is actually a collection of information stored in the form of data. It is a data that is being filter according to the category of what the users are searching for. Information is being categories accordingly to Newspaper, Journal and Magazines Articles, Report & Statistics, Specialist Resources. With this, it enable to give users more relevant and up-to date information and enable the user to generalize its research. Here are the pictures of what *Invisible Web* looks like.......

In a conclusion, I realized that all search engine is useful for my finding and enable me to get the relevant and up-to-date information to support my research. With more information gather from various search engine, our report will done perfectly as we can compare different findings from different search engine and get the best piece of research to support our report.
Hence, i will try to use invisible web to research for my topic on "Serious emotional disturbance and youth" as it is a school search engines and i believe that i can get information that is most accurate and relevant. Furthermore, information from invisible web has being categories accordingly to Newspaper, Journal and Magazines Articles, Report & Statistics, Specialist Resources therefore it is much more easy for me to research on my topics.
Try to use other search engine rather than Google, maybe you will love other search engine and allow you to find more information that you need for your research. Do select and compare both search engine for example Invisible web and Meta search engine when you are researching for your information so that you can get more information and make your report more interesting and accuracy.
